The Ivy Lee method is an extremely effective way to give your day direction. In brief, you write down six tasks the day before that you want to finish the following day.

I have added two very useful sections to the method. The first is for finding the smallest possible “starting step” to make beginning easier. Writing a whole chapter can be an intimidating goal. Breaking it down to writing the first bullet points, or even something smaller, such as opening Microsoft Word, gets the ball rolling much faster.

The second section is for distractions. Often, while working on something, other ideas or tasks come to mind that seem important at that moment too. But because they are not immediately urgent or contributing to your plan, you do not really want to tackle them straight away. I added a section to write these things down so you do not lose them. Afterwards, you can decide whether they actually mattered.
